McCarthy Companies has been selected to provide Preconstruction and General Contracting services for two new affordable housing developments, bringing a total of 112 new affordable units to the Central Coast counties. Camino de Salud, a 49-unit affordable development that will be located in Unincorporated Ventura County (just outside Ojai). The community is being developed by Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation (CEDC). Jacaranda Court, a 63-unit affordable multifamily development located in Santa Barbara will support Santa Barbara’s workforce, specifically “missing middle” households that earn too much to qualify for low-income affordable housing but not enough to afford market-rate rents. The community is being developed by the Housing Authority of the City of Santa Barbara. The developments are expected to be completed in 2027.
Camino De Salud will consist of one three-story building with 49 efficiency units of affordable housing serving those whose income falls within 30 and 60 percent of the area median income (AMI), along with an unrestricted manager’s unit. Supportive Services will include Case (Care) Management and Services Coordination, Adult & Health Education Classes, Health Services, and Behavioral Health Services.
“Camino de Salud represents the kind of thoughtful, community-centered development that ensures our residents can thrive with dignity, stability, and connection,” said Victoria Brady, CEO of Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation (CEDC). “We are grateful for partners like McCarthy Companies whose expertise and shared commitment to affordability help bring these homes to life.”
Jacaranda Court will provide 63 new affordable units for families in a three- and four-story building. The units will be constructed to serve moderate-income households, defined as earning between 80% and 120% of the AMI. There will be 7 units restricted to low-income households (80% of the AMI and below) with Project-Based Section 8 Vouchers already approved. The remaining units will be for moderate-income households and one final unit will be a designated manager unit. The building will consist of 21 studios, 37 one-bedroom units and 5 two-bedroom units.
“Affordable housing developments require careful coordination, strong partnerships, and a deep understanding of community needs,” said Tony Koeijmans, CEO of McCarthy Companies. “We’re proud to support CEDC and the Housing Authority of the City of Santa Barbara in delivering developments that combine quality construction with long-term affordability and supportive services to address our region’s most pressing need.”
