The Vision Behind Fillmore’s Newest Affordable Housing Community
The Mountain View Apartments community was made possible by our partnership with Many Mansions and the Area Housing Authority for the County of Ventura. McCarthy served as General Contractor, providing preconstruction and construction services for the completion of 77 affordable apartments and associated amenities. To qualify for Mountain View, residents must have “extremely low” and “very low-income” levels, which are calculated based on the latest median income figures of Ventura County residents. Eight of the 77 units in this affordable community are reserved for residents who were formerly homeless and have a disability. In an interview with Wes Woods II from Ventura County Star, Daisy Rodriguez, a new resident, said, “I wake up every morning and thank God where I’m at. Once you get homeless and lose hope, it goes sideways. I think this is a really good attempt to solve homelessness. I know I’m the happiest person in the world.” When David Martinez, another formerly homeless resident, moved into the building in May, he told Ventura County Star, “it brought tears to my eyes. I was overwhelmed. I couldn’t believe it. I got my own place — a brand new place. It is really happening.”
To support residents, Mountain View also provides various programs, such as job development and life skills workshops for adults and after-school tutoring for children. An on-site case manager is also available for all formerly homeless residents.
Building Mountain View
RRM Design Group designed this community to feature agrarian Craftsman-style architecture inspired by Fillmore’s unique history. The seven charming buildings have enhanced the neighborhood and cultivated a pedestrian-friendly environment. The community comprises one, two, and three bedroom apartment homes and offers abundant open space, shared courtyards, and recreational opportunities. The additional amenities include manager and service offices, an on-site laundry center, a community room, an indoor ping-pong table, an outdoor activity center, two playgrounds, community gardens, a picnic area and barbecue pit, garage parking and guest parking, and a library.
A Community Worth Celebrating
McCarthy Companies celebrated the Grand Opening of Mountain View Apartments on September 27th. Every apartment is fully occupied, with hundreds of people remaining on the waitlist. We are proud to be a part of an effort to create more affordable housing opportunities in Ventura County, and we’re grateful to everyone who worked so hard to bring this development to life.
